  • This is a Solo level design assignment made in 6 weeks.

  • Made in Unreal Development Kit (UDK)

  • This is a single player stealth game where the player can disguise themselves as the enemy, and only melee attack.

 

  • Designer Responsibilities

    • Specify Player's melee attack power and timing

    • Create obstacles which involved Disguise and Reveal.

    • Specify Disguise and Reveal conditions

    • Specify timing challenge of Disguising after killing an enemy.

 

  • Level Designer Responsibilities

    • Work around existing AI behavior to create compelling challenges.

    • Plan AI patrol routes based on where the player is most likely to go.

    • Place moving spotlights based on where the player is most likely to go.

    • Place Reveal panels based on where I want there to be some challenge.

 

  • Trails and Tribulations

    • Being my first foray into Unreal Engine 3, much was unknown to me. Fortunately, I was able to learn the tools I needed in the engine to do what I intended along the way. My scope was pretty ambitious as well for what the assignment was. Although there were already pre-made range weapons in the game complete with ammunition pickups, I wanted melee combat, and implemented my own. Melee enemies proved too hard a challenge, but ranged enemies created an interesting complement of tactics on the player side.
